Coast Guard continues search for missing Air Force pilot off S.C.

CHARLESTON, S.C. The Coast Guard continues its search for a missing Air Force pilot approximately 30-miles northeast of Charleston.

Missing is Air Force Capt. Nicholas Giglio of the 20th Fighter Wing of Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. Giglio’s F-16 collided with a second F-16 at approximately 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Shaw AFB contacted the Coast Guard to assist in the search for the missing pilot.

Currently involved in the search are:

  • An HH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Savannah, Ga.
  • The Coast Guard Cutter Yellowfin, an 87-foot patrol boat from Charleston
  • A Coast Guard Station Georgetown, S.C., small boat
  • A Coast Guard Station Charleston small boat
  • A C-130 Hercules fixed-wing aircraft from Air Station Clearwater, Fla.

Coast Guard units have been searching throughout the night, which included a C-130 fixed wing aircraft, a small boat and Coast Guard cutter.
