Coast Guard continues search for missing 67-year-old boater

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. – The Coast Guard continued its search efforts for Michael Dodick, who has been missing since Thursday, in the vicinity of Cape Lookout Shoals Friday night.

The Coast Guard has been searching along with the Marine Corps for Dodick since Thursday night, after Kathy Hayes, Dodick’s girlfriend, notified watchstanders at Sector North Carolina that he was overdue.

Coast Guard will continue to search with a 47-foot rescue boat from Station Fort Macon along with the Coast Guard Cutter Block Island, a 110-foot cutter homeported in Atlantic Beach.

If Dodick is not found throughout the night, the Coast Guard will have a C-130 Hercules airplane and a MH-60J hawk helicopter along with two Coast Guard cutters searching at sunrise.

Dodick is a 67-year-old male and is 5 foot 9 inches and 180 pounds.

“Mariners are requested to keep a sharp lookout, assist if possible, and report any sightings to the nearest Coast Guard unit,” said Lt. j.g. Scott Hembrook, public affairs officer at Sector North Carolina.
