Coast Guard continues search for boater near Moses Lake, Texas

HOUSTON —The Coast Guard continues to search Saturday for a boater who fell overboard near Texas City, Texas.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a notification Friday at approximately 8:30 p.m. of a 40-year-old male who reportedly fell from a 22-foot recreational vessel without a lifejacket.

A Coast Guard Station Galveston 29-foot Response Boat–Small boat crew and a Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew were launched.

The search area has been widened to approximately 28 square miles and is due north of the Texas City Dike.

“The Coast Guard dedicates it’s best efforts to every mission we perform and searching for a missing person in the water is one of the most challenging rescue missions we conduct,” said Lt. Cmdr. Jarod Toczko, search and rescue mission coordinator at Sector Houston-Galveston. “Fortunately, we have robust support from our port partners with assets from the State of Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas City Fire Department, and Galveston and Harris County Police Departments assisting in the search effort and will continue to employ all available air and surface assets to saturate the search area.”
