Coast Guard continues clean up after boat fire near Philadelphia

5th Coast Guard District NewsPHILADELPHIA ─ The Coast Guard continues to respond to a gasoline and hydraulic oil spill Friday from the boat fire that occurred at the Philadelphia Marine Center here Thursday.

A pollution response team from Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay here is on scene monitoring the deployment of boom, and the use of materials by Miller Environmental Group personnel to absorb the products.

“This incident is an example of our effective partnership with the Philadelphia Fire Department. They quickly responded to the fire, and we immediately provided our expertise for responding to the oil pollution afterwards,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Tim Tartaglia, a pollution responder at the sector. “We are doing everything within our authority to ensure the impact of oil pollution from this incident is being minimized.”

The 40-foot recreational vessel, Sod Father, caught fire at about 11 a.m. Thursday while the vessel was moored near a restaurant. The fire was extinguished by Philadelphia Fire Department personnel.
