Coast Guard conducts medevac of woman suffering decompression sickness

65 Los AngelesLOS ANGELES –– The Coast Guard transferred a 51-year-old female off Catalina Island Sunday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a call from the Isthmus dive chamber at 10:30 p.m., reporting a female experiencing decompression sickness was in need of further medical attention.

A MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles was launched to assist, after weather conditions made it difficult for Mercy Air or Los Angeles County Fire Air to respond.

The Coast Guard aircrew safely transferred the female to the University of California, Los Angeles medical center.
