KODIAK, Alaska – A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew conducted a non-maritime medevac of Hoonah resident Florence Bennett, 90, suffering from a severe hip fracture in Hoonah Thursday evening.
The 17th Coast Guard District command center received a call at approximately 9 p.m. from a doctor at Sitka Community Hospital requesting Bennett’s medevac.
An Air Station Sitka flight surgeon was notified of the situation and determined an immediate medevac was warranted to alleviate Bennett’s pain and to avoid any potential complications. It was reported that the fracture was a result of an accidental fall.
The helicopter crew flew Bennet to Juneau where she was further transported by awaiting emergency medical personnel to Bartlett Regional Hospital in stable condition.
