HOUSTON – The Coast Guard medevaced a 47-year-old man from the OSV Capt. Nick this morning after it reportedly collided with the a tanker ship, the Pan Am Caribe, Friday night.
A rescue boat from Coast Guard Station Galveston was dispatched at 3:57 a.m., to meet the Capt. Nick about 10 miles off shore from Sabine, Texas. The crew arrived at the vessel’s location at 5:48 a.m., after being slowed by heavy fog and extremely low visibility.
The injured crewman was complaining of intense internal pain, believed to be the result of a collision the vessel had with a tanker ship Friday night. The tanker Pan Am Caribe reported the incident to the Coast Guard at 7:16 p.m. The collision occurred in the ship anchorage in Galveston, Texas, but the ships were allowed to continue on their transits because no damage or injuries were reported at that time.
The crewman was taken back to Station Galveston and transferred to awaiting emergency medical technicians at 8:12 a.m.
Coast Guard units in Port Arthur, Texas, and Galveston are investigating the collision and injury.
