Coast Guard conducts medevac 60 miles southeast of Montauk, N.Y.

60 Cape CodNEW YORK — A Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter crew medically evacuated a 41-year-old man 60 miles southeast of Montauk, Friday.

At 8:56 a.m., Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center watchstanders received notification that the cable-laying vessel Decisive had a crewmember who was experiencing tingling and numbness in his left arm, as well as chest pains.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod at 10:10 a.m. and responded on scene at 10:51 a.m.

The man in need of medical assistance was safely hoisted from the deck of the Decisive.

The helicopter crew transported the man to Stony Brook University Hospital in stable condition.

Air Station Cape Cod, with its four MH-60 Jayhawk helicopters and three HC-144A Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircraft, is the only Coast Guard aviation facility in the northeast.
