SEATTLE — A Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew from Astoria, Ore., conducted a medevac of a 52-year-old man off the motor vessel Nord Ace around 7:30 a.m. today.
Nord Ace departed Grays Harbor, Wash., and was enroute to the Philippines when the captain contacted the Coast Guard Sunday about a crewmember who was experiencing a painful medical condition.
Coast Guard Pacific Area Command Center was initially notified where it was determined for Nord Ace to return to the United States so a medevac could be conducted. Due to the improving medical conditions the decision was made to airlift the man closer to shore.
Once 50 miles offshore an HH-60 rescue helicopter crew was launched from Air Station Astoria. The patient was transferred to awaiting EMS personnel at Astoria Regional Airport in Warrenton, Ore.
