HOUSTON — U.S. Coast Guard is conducting urban search and rescue in the greater Houston area.
Do not call for rescue if you are not in a life-threatening situation. Rescue teams are prioritizing rescues by urgency.
If you are in need of rescue, call 911 or the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Houston Command Center at 281-464-4851
Currently there are five MH-65 Dolphin helicopters conducting rescues in the greater Houston area.
Three Coast Guard Western River Flood Punt Teams are locally poised to connect urban search and rescue.
If you are in a flooding situation:
- Stay calm, do not panic.
- Do not go into the attic, rescuers from the air cannot see you.
- Get to high ground immediately.
- Mark the roof to be seen from the air. Wave sheets, towels, to be noticed from the air.
More than 300 requests for urban search and rescue have been received by the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Houston Command Center.
U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Houston is requesting additional MH-60 Jayhawk helicopters from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans and support from the Air National Guard to support rescue efforts.
