Coast Guard conducting search after report of two capsized vessels in Galveston

Coast Guard District 8 NewsHOUSTON — The Coast Guard is searching for an unspecified number of people in the water after two vessels were reported capsized near the Galveston railroad bridge, Monday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a call from the operator of the railroad bridge at approximately 11 a.m., reporting the capsized vessels near the bridge. It is unknown how many people were onboard the two vessels. Both vessels are wooden with green tarps as sails. They are approximately 10-15 feet in length and appear to be homemade.

A MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston was dispatched to the scene, as were two 25-foot Response Boats-Small from Coast Guard Station Galveston.
