Coast Guard concludes response to oil spill on lower Mississippi River

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard has concluded its response to an oil spill at mile marker 145 on the Mississippi River near Mt. Airy, Louisiana.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report from the National Response Center at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday that a potential maximum of 4200 gallons of fuel oil was released into the lower Mississippi River at the Pin Oaks Terminal.

Coast Guard incident management teams determined that the maximum amount of oil released was approximately 100 gallons and has concluded their response.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
