Coast Guard completes Annual Southeast Alaska Blanket, Coat and Toy Drive

JUNEAU, Alaska – The crews of the Coast Guard Cutter Naushon delivered donated blankets, clothes and new toys to the community of Angoon, Alaska in coordination with the Coast Guard Blanket, Coat and Toy Drive supported by the community of Juneau.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Liberty coordinated the efforts with several local businesses in Juneau. The Coast Guard placed donated bins from Taku Fisheries throughout the city at Costco, Wal-Mart, Safeway, Alaska & Proud, Super Bear Supermarket, Nugget Mall and the Juneau Federal Building during the month of November.

Following the collection period, Alaska Laundry and Dry Cleaners donated their time and equipment to fully clean all the items donated.

The two crews along with Coast Guard Station Juneau worked together to coordinate delivery of the donated items to the communities of Hoonah, Angoon, Kake, Pelican and Elfin Cove. Coast Guard personnel have developed close ties with the communities throughout Alaska and understand the resource challenges of living in remote areas. By supporting the Coat, Blanket and Toy drive, we are helping to meet some of these needs at a time of year when the spirit of giving is at its highest.
