Coast Guard Commandant visits Harvard and MIT

BOSTON – The U.S. Coast Guard’s top leader visited Boston today to speak to local Coast Guard members and college students.

Adm. Thad Allen’s first stop was the Coast Guard Integrated Support Command, Boston where he met with a crew of Boston-based Coast Guard members and spoke about organizational changes and development within the Coast Guard.

He communicated his vision of modernizing the Coast Guard to operate at all levels with the same efficiency and effectiveness as today’s top corporations.

“We have to do it,” he said. “We have the talent to do it, and it’s the time to do it.”

He later spoke to students and faculty at both Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and answered questions about governmental leadership.
