Coast Guard closes portion of Upper Mississippi River

America's Heartland Coast Guard NewsNEW ORLEANS — A portion of the Upper Mississippi River near Lacrosse, Wis., has been closed by the U.S. Coast Guard for dredging operations Thursday.

The Upper Mississippi River has been closed to all commercial traffic at mile marker 688. The waterway is closed so that the Army Corps of Engineers can safely conduct dredging operations.

The Coast Guard urges mariners to monitor VHF-FM channels 16 and 22 for any changes to the closure.
