LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Coast Guard captain of the port for Sector Ohio Valley has closed a portion of the Ohio River to all commercial traffic due to high current out flow of the Wabash River, Tuesday.
The river is closed from mile marker 847.5 to 849, near Uniontown, Ky. The closure is based on input from the Army Corps of Engineers, as well as key maritime industry stakeholders, in order to prevent vessels from running a ground. High water on the Wabash River has caused strong currents at the intersection of the Ohio River.
The Coast Guard is working with the ACOE and representatives of the towing industry to survey the area, mark the channel and develop plans to re-open the waterway to commercial traffic when deemed safe for transit.
