Coast Guard closes portion of Ohio River near Cincinnati

CINCINNATI – The Coast Guard closed a portion of the Ohio River Sunday due to a motor vessel sinking.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., the Coast Guard received a report from the motor vessel Claude R that the motor vessel Credo sank on the left bank of the Ohio River near mile marker 480.6. It was reported that there where three persons in the water after the Credo sank. Two people were rescued by Good Samaritans. Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Cincinnati and the Boone County Fire Department are actively searching for the third person.

The Ohio River is closed from mile marker 482 to 478 due to the uncertainty as to where the Credo sank.

The Coast Guard has set up an incident command post and has issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast to mariners.

The incident is under investigation.
