Coast Guard Chiefs to provide free dinner to senior citizens

Coast Guard District 17 NewsJUNEAU, Alaska – Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers will host the 38th Annual Senior Citizens Holiday Dinner at the Elizabeth Peratovich Hall Dec. 11, 2011 at 4 p.m.

The event, which is open to senior citizens and their care givers, will begin with an hour of entertainment followed by a free dinner at 5 p.m.

“The dinner was first organized by Master Chief Petty Officer Carl Constantine in 1974 and has become an annual tradition for the local chiefs,” said Senior Chief Petty Officer Lee Balcom. “It’s a great way for us to give back to the local community and provide a great evening to the local senior citizens.”

Senior citizens who’d like to attend the event but need transportation are asked to contact Care-A-Van at 907-463-6194 to make a reservation. Transportation reservations will need to be made by Dec. 4 2011 or seniors will be required to use other methods of transportation to get to and from the event.
