BUZZARD’S BAY, Mass. – The Cape Cod Chapter of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers’ Association (CPOA) is scheduled to host the 19th Annual Habilitation Assistance Corporation sponsored Massachusetts Special Olympics events from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 1, 2007, at the gym on Otis Air National Guard Base.
Members of the CPOA, Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Coast Guard Sector New England units, 102nd Fighter Wing and Camp Edwards Army National Guard will be assisting with the Olympic events, providing lunch to the Olympians and presentation of the awards. More than 80 Coast Guard, Air Force and Army National Guard members, as well as civilian government employees have already volunteered. Friends and family of volunteers are invited to attend.
Approximately 300 Olympians from the towns of Plymouth, the Upper Cape, Braintree and Hyannis are expected to participate this year.
“The continued support of more than 150 aides and volunteers will make the 19th Annual Special Olympics another great success,” said Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Robin Sparks, the chairman of the Special Olympics Committee for the Cape Cod Chapter of the CPOA.
The CPOA has hosted this event since its creation.
