Coast Guard, Charles County Fire and Rescue rescue 1 in Potomac River

Coast Guard District 5 NewsBALTIMORE — The Coast Guard and Charles County Fire and Rescue responded to a person in the water in the Potomac River near Quantico, Va., Saturday.

The Coast Guard received a call at 9:45 a.m. from a member of Prince Williams County emergency dispatch reporting a man was in the river after the 18-foot fishing boat he was aboard capsized.

The Coast Guard launched a 25-foot Response Boat – Small from Coast Guard Station Washington, D.C., and Charles County Fire and Rescue launched a rescue boatcrew.

The Charles County boatcrew rescued the man and brought him to the shore where he was transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel.

“The positive outcome in this case is directly attributable to effective inter-agency communications,” said Brad Stickles, a search and rescue coordinator at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore.
