Coast Guard Chaplains Change Watch

CLEVELAND — Navy Lt. Cmdr. Herbert L. Griffin Jr., District Nine Command Chaplain, is scheduled to transfer the Ninth Coast Guard District command chaplain responsibilities to Navy Lt. Cmdr. Randy E. Williams, Deputy Command Chaplain of Naval Air Station Patuxent River May 1, 2007 at the Ninth Coast Guard District Headquarters here.

Williams served as ship’s chaplain aboard USS Dubuque. He was the Command Chaplain of Naval Station Pascagoula before serving as Deputy Command Chaplain and Senior Protestant Chaplain at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md.

Williams is ordained by the Northern California Presbytery of the Prebyterian Church in America. He holds a Master of Divinity degree in Pastoral Ministries from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

He has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Air Force Ahievement Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Fleet Marine Force Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.

The ceremony will be at 7:30 am at a conference room in Federal Building here, and a model lighthouse statue will be physically handed over from Griffin to Williams to symbolize the guiding light a chaplain should provide.
