Coast Guard Captain retires, receives Legion of Merit medal

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Coast Guard Capt. James Hubbard retired today during a ceremony held at Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City.

During the ceremony, Hubbard received a Legion of Merit medal, a military decoration awarded for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. The award is one of only two U.S. decorations to be issued as a neck order – the other being the Medal of Honor.

During his speech, Hubbard commended his crew for the time they served together.

“I think the term ‘heroes’ is quite appropriate,” Hubbard said of his crew. “With tremendous sacrifice, they diligently stand the watch and perform their missions. The accomplishments of this fine group make me swell with pride to stand and serve with them.”
