CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard is assisting Cameron County Sheriff’s Department in searching for a man who was reported to have jumped from the Queen Isabella Causeway Bridge in South Padre Island, Thursday morning.

Coast Guard Station South Padre Island called the Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi command center at 4:13 a.m., reporting that a person had exited a taxi and jumped off the highest point of the Queen Isabella Causeway Bridge.

The Coast Guard deployed crewmembers aboard a 33-foot response boat from Station South Padre Island and an MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi to search for the person in the water.

“We are saturating a search area 2 miles by 2 miles wide along the Intercoastal Waterway off Port Isabel with assets both on the surface and in the air,” said Lt. Tyrone Conner, public affairs officer for Sector Corpus Christi. “Coast Guard crews are working closely with on-scene, local agencies searching for the person in the water.”
