Coast Guard busts illegal “twerking” charter boat in Florida

So much for hunting for booty on the high seas.

The US Coast Guard terminated the voyage of a 45-foot “twerk boat” in South Florida waters on Sunday, putting an end to the fun for fourteen passengers after a routine boarding of the charter vessel revealed several safety violations.

The “Sea You Twerk” vessel was stopped in Biscayne Bay during a routine boarding by the USCG, who discovered safety issues, as well as lacking a credentialed mariner and valid safety inspection.

In addition, the boat also lacked a drug and alcohol program.

According to WPTV, owners and operators of illegal charter vessels can face steep maximum civil penalties of $42,394 for illegal passenger-for-hire operations.

“It can be very dangerous to take part in a charter that doesn’t meet regulations and educating yourself on what to look for to determine whether or not the operation is legitimate can save your life,” Jesus Porrata, Coast Guard Sector Miami lead marine investigator said in a statement. “It’s important that people looking to charter a boat verify the captain’s license and safety of the vessel.”

While Poratta’s words ring true, the patrons of the “See You Twerk” seemed to be more interested in partying than having a skilled crew.

The charter’s Instagram page is loaded with photos and videos of wild girls getting their twerk on as they sail the high seas, and around 13,200 people follow to keep up on the action.
