Coast Guard, beach patrol rescues 2 near Barnegat Inlet, N.J.

BARNEGAT, N.J. – The Coast Guard rescued two people Wednesday who were aboard a 34-foot sailboat, which ran aground outside of the south jetty near Barnegat Inlet here.

The Coast Guard received a call at 8:59 p.m. that the two men were on a sailing trip toward North Carolina when they ran aground and were stuck on rocks.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light, along with a rescue crew from Barnegat Beach Patrol arrived on scene. The Barnegat Beach Patrol crew pulled the two men from the sailboat and transfered them to the Coast Guard

Both survivors were taken to the Coast Guard station with no medical concerns.

It was reported there was less than 50 feet of visibility at the time of the incident.

A crew from Sea Tow is currently developing a plan to salvage the sailboat.
