Coast Guard Base New Orleans transfers command

America's Heartland Coast Guard NewsNEW ORLEANS ­— Coast Guard Base New Orleans held a change-of-command ceremony where Capt. Jon Gage relieved Capt. Eric Johnson as commanding officer, Friday.

Gage arrived from Coast Guard Surface Forces Logistics Center in Norfolk, Va., where he served as the chief of vessel support and medium endurance cutter product line manager.

Gage’s prior assignments include ship and administrative assignments. After graduating from the Coast Guard Academy in 1990 he was assigned to the Coast Guard Cutter Chilula. His other cutter assignments include the cutters Diligence and Northland. Gage’s administrative assignments include Maintenance and Logistics Command Atlantic as medium endurance cutter type deck manager, Engineering Logistics Center in Baltimore as patrol boat platform manager and commanding officer of Naval Engineering Support Unit in Cleveland.

Johnson, a native of Bloomington, Minn., has led Base New Orleans since July 2010. His next assignment will be as director of operational logistics in Norfolk.
