Coast Guard Base Ketchikan to hold open house

17th Coast Guard District NewsKETCHIKAN, Alaska – Coast Guard Base Ketchikan commands including the Coast Guard Cutters Naushon and Anthony Petit are hosting an open house for the public from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Aug. 27, 2011.

The open house includes tours of the two cutters, emergency medical treatment demonstrations from medical clinic crews, an oil pollution recovery demonstration from marine safety detachment personnel and search and rescue, law enforcement displays from small boat station response crews.

A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter rescue demonstration with Coast Guard Station Ketchikan will take place in the waters off of the base at 1 p.m.

In addition community members are invited to bring their boats to receive a free boating safety check or to sign up for boating safety courses both provided by Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteers.

The local branch of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association will be providing free hotdogs, cotton candy and drinks.

The base is located at 1300 Stedman Street, lower base. All attendees must have a valid identification to enter the base and an adult must accompany all minors under the age of 18.
