Coast Guard Awards New Recycling Contract for Kodiak Base

JUNEAU, Alaska – The Coast Guard has awarded a Recyclable Waste Processing and Disposal Service Contract for $1.11 million to Nick’s Auto & Salvage at Integrated Support Command (ISC) Kodiak beginning Nov. 17, 2008. The contract is for Base Year and four options.

Nick’s Auto & Salvage will assume base service responsibilities on Nov. 17, 2008. The recycling services contract with Threshold expires on Nov. 14, 2008.

Under the new contract, Nick’s Auto & Salvage will be responsible for recycling services for all scrap metal generated at ISC Kodiak. Services would include receiving, processing and recycling of an estimated 100 tons of scrap metal to include both ferrous and non-ferrous metals including used appliances and tires.

The provided facility meets all state and federal regulatory requirements for recycling of scrap metals and vehicles.

The ISC has approximately 21,000 acres of land and 380 buildings including a steam generation plant, a sewage treatment and a water purification plant, which supports an air station, three Coast Guard cutters and several small operational commands.
