Coast Guard Awards Contract to Purchase Three Additional HC-144A Aircraft

Washington – The Coast Guard awarded a firm-fixed-price Delivery/Task Order to Integrated Coast Guard Systems on November 17, 2008, to purchase three HC-144A “Ocean Sentry” Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) at a total cost of $150,517,167.00.  These MPAs—our ninth, tenth, and eleventh HC-144As–will be built at the EADS CASA construction facility in Seville, Spain.  The delivery dates for these aircraft are April, August and November 2010, respectively.  The contract also includes five Mission System Pallets (MSP) for aircraft #4 through #8.  The delivery dates for the MSPs are: May 2010 – one each, July 2010 – two each, and for August and September 2010 – one each, respectively.

In addition, the Coast Guard recently accepted delivery of the sixth HC-144A on November 5, 2008.  The aircraft was delivered early and within the negotiated price.

We are continuing the Operational Assessment testing of the aircraft and MSPs and expect to achieve Initial Operational Capability in early 2009.  Service plans call for a fleet of 36 fully missionized HC-144As by 2020.

Next Steps:

The ninth, tenth, and eleventh aircraft will supplement the previously delivered aircraft as the HC-144A fleet transitions to operational status and standing duty. Future activities include:

  • Completion of Operational Assessment testing
  • Completion of the Classified Local Area Network Authority To Operate Interim Authority To Operate previously granted
  • Standup of Air Station at Mobile, Ala., as the first operational unit
