Coast Guard Auxiliary to participate in National Safe Boating Week

SEATTLE – Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 12, located in Edmonds, Wash., the Coast Guard and the Edmonds West Marine, are hosting a National Safe Boating Week Celebration, Saturday, May 23, 2009, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., in the West Marine parking lot at 188 Sunset Ave.

The Coast Guard will have a rescue boat display and crewmembers available to answer questions. The Coast Guard Auxiliary will have crews available to conduct vessel safety checks on trailered boats. Appointments for boats stored on the water will also be scheduled. Auxiliary members will be available to collect expired flares, distribute safety brochures and provide helpful hints on safety equipment.

There will be gifts for kids and free hot dogs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a good time to meet active duty Coast Guard personnel and local Coast Guard Auxiliary members who spend many hours patrolling, speaking and teaching boater safety in several areas.
