Coast Guard ATC to honor last enlisted Coast Guard aviator

MOBILE, Ala. – Coast Guard service members and civilian personnel from the Aviation Training Center, are scheduled to hold a dedication ceremony here to honor the memory of the last enlisted Coast Guard aviator, by placing a photograph and biography plaque in Bottoms Hall Lobby, Monday starting at 11 a.m.

This dedication ceremony will honor the life and 35-year career of Master Chief John P. Greathouse, who passed away in Gulfport, Miss., Aug. 30, 2005.

Rear Adm. David Kunkel, commander of the Seventh Coast Guard District in Miami, the keynote speaker, will recognize Greathouse’s career accomplishments, along side his widow, Mrs. Doris Greathouse, who will celebrate her 80th birthday that day with attending family members.

Master Chief Greathouse is honored at the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola, Fla., and alongside the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk, N.C. Also ATC Mobile dedicated the main boulevard on base in his name.
