Coast Guard assists woman aboard vessel 30 miles southeast of Beaufort Inlet, NC

Mid Atlantic Coast Guard NewsPORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard assisted a 37-year-old woman aboard a vessel in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 30 miles southeast of Beaufort Inlet, N.C., Friday.

A member aboard the 70-foot passenger vessel Capt. Stacy IV contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders at approximately 10 a.m. via VHF-FM channel 16, reporting that a woman aboard was experiencing chest pains and requesting a medevac.

Sector North Carolina watchstanders dispatched crews aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Fort Macon, N.C., with a paramedic from the Atlantic Beach Fire Department aboard and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C.

The MLB crew arrived on scene and transferred the paramedic to the Capt. Stacy IV to evaluate the woman. The paramedic determined that the patient was stable and the decision was made to leave the passenger aboard the boat while the MLB crew escorted the vessel to Station Fort Macon.

“This is a great example of how the Coast Guard works with local police and fire departments to provide emergency assistance to those in need,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Jacobe Hyre, a search and rescue coordinator at the Coast Guard 5th District Command Center.

The woman was met at the station by awaiting emergency medical services personnel.
