Coast Guard assists with search of 93-year-old deaf woman

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard is assisting local authorities with the search of a 93-year-old deaf woman in Skamania County, Wash., Wednesday.

Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore., is assisting the Skamania County Sheriff in the search for Sonn Souv.

Air Station Astoria, Ore., launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and began searching an area near Mt. Adams, Wash. at, 10 p.m., Tuesday, using night vision goggles. A second helicopter crew was launched at 8:50 a.m., Wednesday, and searched until 12:06 p.m.

The Coast Guard received the request for assistance from the Washington Emergency Operations Center, at approximately 8 p.m., Tuesday, after the woman’s family reported her missing at 12 p.m. They were picking mushrooms, while she waited in the car, and she was missing when they returned to the vehicle.
