Coast Guard assists with search for woman near Bellingham, Wash.

SEATTLE — A Coast Guard smallboat crew assisted with the search for a woman near Bellingham, Wash., at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday.

The Whatcom County Sheriff WCS contacted the Coast Guard at 1 a.m. requesting assistance in locating the woman who was seen running into the water at the Gooseberry Point ferry terminal west of Bellingham.

A 33-foot smallboat crew from Coast Guard Station Bellingham and a helicopter crew from Air Station Port Angeles, Wash., were launched to assist in the search. A WCS smallboat also took part in the search.

The Coast Guard smallboat crew located the woman clinging to pilings above the water and transported her to emergency medical personnel waiting on shore.
