Coast Guard assists vessel taking on water near Perth Amboy, N.J.

Coast Guard District 1 NewsNEW YORK – A Coast Guard boat crew rescued four people after their vessel started taking on water near Perth Amboy, N.J., today.

The crew of the 31-foot recreational vessel issued a distress call at 12:39 a.m., reporting their boat was flooding and that they needed assistance because their bilge pump was unable to dewater the boat.

Coast Guard Sector New York immediately launched the rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook, N.J., issued an urgent marine broadcast and placed the vessel operator on a communications schedule to monitor their status.

The Coast Guard boat crew arrived on scene and was able to assist the operator with dewatering the boat while towing them safely to Perth Amboy Marina.
