Coast Guard assists vessel taking on water near Beafort Inlet, N.C.

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. – Coast Guard rescue boat crews from Station Fort Macon and Station Emerald Isle assisted the operator of a sinking yacht on its way to Beaufort Inlet Thursday evening.

The operator of 37-foot motor yacht The Admiral called the Coast Guard via VHF Channel 16 stating he was taking on water from an unknown source.

A 25-foot rescue boat crew from Station Emerald Isle arrived on scene along with Sea Tow and found one and a half feet of water on deck. The rescue boat crew transferred a dewatering pump and two crewmembers to assist the yacht’s operator in removing the water.

The Station Emerald Isle crew began escorting the yacht, and a crew from Station Fort Macon arrived and continued the escort.

The pump kept the flooding under control as the Station Fort Macon rescue boat crew escorted the yacht through Beaufort Inlet to Portside Marina on the vessel’s own power and safely moored the yacht at Portside Marina.
