Coast Guard assists Tillamook Fire Department with rescue of stranded woman

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard assisted the Tillamook Fire Department in rescuing a woman who was stranded 75-feet down a cliff at Elks Mountain, Ore., yesterday.

Coast Guard Air Station Astoria received a call from the Tillamook County Dispatch in Tillamook, Ore., at 4:57 p.m.  that a woman hiker had become stranded at the bottom of a cliff and would possibly need medical attention.

Air Station Astoria launched an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to pick up three Tillamook Fire Department personnel at a landing zone nearby to transport them to the scene and assist the woman.

Once on scene, the emergency personnel were lowered to the woman and were able to successfully help her out of the area.
