Coast Guard assists Sheriff’s Department with medevac of diver near Marina Del Rey

65 with basket Los AngelesLOS ANGELES – The Coast Guard assisted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Marina Del Rey Station with the medical evacuation of a diver in distress 5 miles off Marina Del Rey, Wednesday.

At 9:30 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles/ Long Beach received initial notification from the vessel El Dorado, that an individual aboard was unconscious and experiencing symptoms of cardiac arrest.

Members from the Sheriff’s Department and Baywatch Marina Del Rey were notified of the call and crews were immediately sent to assist. The crews were able to bring the diver safely aboard the Sheriff’s Department vessel and revive the individual to consciousness.

Coast Guard watchstanders diverted a MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles to assist in the safe transfer of the diver from the Sherriff’s Department vessel to Catalina Island, where emergency medical services were waiting.

The diver was reported to be alert and oriented.
