Coast Guard assists person in the water near Lorain

LORAIN, Ohio — The Coast Guard assisted a man found clinging to his 18-foot sailboat here, Sunday at approximately 1 p.m., near the break-wall.

Coast Guard Station Lorain launched a 41-foot utility boat to assist the sailor. Once on scene, the Coast Guard crew recovered him and took him back to shore.

A good Samaritan on board the pleasure craft Sea Bass initially spotted the boater in the water, and stayed with him until the Coast Guard arrived on scene.

There were no reported injuries or pollution.

“Due to improvements in weather and good conditions, the Coast Guard urges those who recreate on the water to be vigilant of others, as in this case, and to report any problems to the nearest Coast Guard station or emergency responders,” said Chief Petty Officer Robert Lanier, Asst. Public Affairs Officer for the Ninth Coast Guard District.
