BALTIMORE – The Coast Guard assisted the sole operator of a 19-foot boat today near St. Inigoes, Md., after the boat the man was on became disabled and started to take on water.
Petty Officer 3rd Class George Ramirez, a Tampa, Fla., native, is a member of the rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes who responded to the case. This rescue marks the first search and rescue case for Ramirez, who received certification to drive and operate the rescue boat two weeks ago.
Once on scene, the Coast Guard crew discovered the flooding had stabilized, and the crew began to tow the boat.
The Coast Guard is towing the boat to St. George Island, Md. An inspection of the boat will be conducted to determine the cause of the flooding.
Ramirez has been stationed at Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes for 10 months.
St. Mary’s fire and rescue also responded to the case.
