Coast Guard helps local agencies to recover 1 in Tuckahoe River near Corbin City, N.J.

CORBIN CITY, N.J. – Coast Guard assisted local agencies recover one person in the water after the canoe he was in capsized in the Tuckahoe River Monday.

Names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin by local authorities.

The Coast Guard received a call at 9:30 p.m. from a member of Ocean City Police Department reporting a canoe with two people capsized in the river. It was also reported one person swam to shore when the canoe capsized and is being assisted by members of Tuckahoe Fire and Rescue. Ocean City Police Department reported they needed assistance finding the other person in the water.

A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., arrived on scene and used the helicopter’s spotlight to assist the agencies with locating the other person in the water who was unresponsive.

The person was transferred to awaiting medical personnel and transported to Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, N.J., where he was pronounced deceased.

Members of Upper Township Fire and Rescue and New Jersey State Police also assisted in the search.
