Coast Guard Assists in Search for Michigan Boy

CLARE , Mich. – Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City assisted the Clare County Sheriff’s Office with the search of a missing 12-year-old boy located today in a wooded area of Winterfield Township at approximately 9 a.m.

An HH-65C rescue heliopter crew conducted aerial searches for more than four hours, which began at 2 a.m. after the boy’s mother reported him missing at 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

A crew returned for fuel after a first-light search, and Clare County Sheriff’s deputies and local citizens located the Grand Rapids, Mich. boy safe, wet from the waist down.

Local authorities transfered him to awaiting Emergency Medical Services, which transported him to Cadillac Hospital.

The boy left his family’s hunting camp in the woods of Winterfield Township to go fishing Saturday at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Air Station Traverse City worked closely with the Clare County Sheriff’s Department to ensure the safe location of the boy.
