Coast Guard assists fishing vessel taking on water near Grand Isle

Coast Guard Cutter SturgeonNEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard assisted a fishing vessel that was taking on water approximately 11 miles south of Grand Isle, Louisiana, Tuesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans were notified at 6:02 a.m. that the fishing vessel Jennifer & David was taking on water.

Sector New Orleans directed the launch of a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Grand Isle and diverted Coast Guard Cutter Sturgeon to assist the vessel.

The response boat crew arrived on scene at 7:04 a.m. and transferred a de-watering pump to the fishing vessel.

The people aboard the fishing vessel used the pump to de-water their vessel and the response boat escorted the fishing vessel back to shore.

The fishing vessel crew dry-docked their vessel in Leeville at 2:56 p.m.
