Coast Guard assists fishing vessel on fire 100 miles off Sabine Pass

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard assisted the crew of a fishing vessel on fire 100 miles southeast of Sabine Pass, Monday, Jan. 26, 2009.

Watchstanders at Sector Houston-Galveston received a call at 6:09 a.m. from the crew of a research boat reporting the fishing vessel Compadre had caught fire. The research boat recovered all three crewmembers from the Compadre and transported them to a nearby oil rig.

An Air Station Houston MH-65C rescue helicopter crew was launched to recover the three crewmembers from the rig, and transported them to Coast Guard Air Station Houston where EMS crews were awaiting their arrival.

A Falcon jet crew from Air Station Corpus Christi was also launched to assess the damaged fishing vessel, and the Coast Guard Cutter Heron was dispatched to secure the vessel.
