Two members of the Coast Guard’s Gulf Strike Team are assisting the Environmental Protection Agency with cleanup operations Tuesday in an area contaminated by mining in Ore Knob, N.C.
The Strike Team members are providing assistance with health and safety functions as well as air monitoring and pH monitoring. Water supplies near the former Ore Knob mine contain elevated concentrations of various metals. The members are also conducting photography and cost documentation.
