Coast Guard assists distressed kayaker

HONOLULU – Coast Guard Station Maui crewmembers transported a 49-year-old woman from a Good Samaritans’ vessel to Lahaina Harbor after she was found adrift one mile south of Maui at 7 a.m. today.

The woman told Coast Guard officials she became separated from her kayak and has been adrift since Thursday afternoon.

Crewmembers on the charter vessel, Strike Zone, recovered the woman and promptly contacted the Coast Guard; rescue personnel arrived on scene at approximately 7:40 a.m.

Coast Guard crewmembers met Maui emergency medical services personnel at approximately 8 a.m. The woman was then transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.
