Coast Guard assists disabled vessel near Oregon

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard is assisting a disabled, 47-foot sailing vessel 100 miles west of the Central Oregon Coast today.

The master of the sailing vessel Reverie contacted the Coast Guard via VHF radio just after 4 a.m. to report he had lost steering and was drifting toward the Oregon Coast.

An HH-60 helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore., was launched along with a C-130 plane from Air Station Sacramento, Calif., to provide communications support and to track the vessel using its Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon.

The Coast Guard Cutter Fir has been diverted to assist with towing the Reverie and was expected to intercept the vessel at approximatley 6:30 p.m.

Weather conditions on scene were reported to consist of 30-35 knot winds and 11-foot seas. No injuries have been reported.
