Coast Guard assists disabled sailing vessel near Old Field, N.Y.

Coast Guard Station St. Joseph accepts new 45-foot RB-MNEW YORK — Coast Guard crewmembers assist a disabled sailing vessel approximately three miles northwest of Crane Neck Point in Old Field, New York, Friday.

At approximately 2 p.m., watchstanders from the Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center received notification from a good Samaritan about a 30-foot sailing vessel that was disabled and requested assistance

Coast Guard Station Eatons Neck diverted a rescue crew aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium to assist.

The good Samaritan remained on scene with the disabled vessel until the rescue crew arrived.

Once on scene, the rescue crew noticed the disabled vessel was at anchor and had its sails up.

A boarding team was transported aboard the disabled vessel, completed an initial safety assessment, and determined to tow the vessel.

The rescue crew safely towed the vessel to Northport, New York.
