SANTA LUCIA, Cuba — The Coast Guard assisted a disabled sailing vessel Thursday 49 miles north of Santa Lucia.
Coast Guard Seventh District Command Center watchstanders received a notification from the United Kingdom Rescue Coordination Center stating that a United Kingdom-flagged sailing vessel, the Pelican of London, with 42 passengers aboard was unable to start their engines due to an electrical issue.
Coast Guard Cutter Charles David Jr. (WPC-1107) crew was diverted by District Seven and arrived on scene and launched a 33-foot Defender-class boat boat crew to troubleshoot the vessel. The Charles David Jr. took the sailing vessel in tow in toward Key West and then was safely relieved by commercial salvage who completed the tow to Key West for repairs. No injuries or medical concerns reported.
