Coast Guard Assists Bahamian Government in Locating Missing Woman

MIAMI – Coast Guard crews assisted the Bahamian government in locating a missing Bahamian woman 100 yards northwest of New Providence Island, Bahamas, Sunday.

The captain of the motor vessel Conch Daddy recovered a man from a capsized vessel approximately 100 yards off New Providence Island, Sunday afternoon. Once aboard the Conch Daddy, the man stated that his mother, Marian Green, 65, was missing. After taking the man to Nassau, the captain of the Conch Daddy contacted Royal Bahamian Defense Force officials reporting one person from a capsized vessel had been rescued and one was missing.

RBDF officials immediately contacted watchstanders at the Operation Bahamas, Turks and Caicos command center at approximately 8 p.m. Sunday to request Coast Guard assistance.

The Coast Guard launched an Air Station Clearwater HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, deployed to the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center in Bahamas, to search. The helicopter crew located Green within one hour and relayed her position to Bahamian vessels assisting with the search. RBDF officials recovered Green’s lifeless body and transported her to Nassau.
